Incandescent light fixtures - there are better options out there

Incandescent light fixtures are just a fancy name for a fixture that uses a light bulb.  One of the advantages of incandescent light fixtures is that they can be used with a wide range of voltages ranging from a few volts up to several hundred.  Traditional light bulbs actually provide poor luminous efficacy and are slowly being replaced with better lamps including fluorescent, LEDs and others.

If you want to save money, consider replacing your incandescent light fixture bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL).  These bulbs use up to 75% less energy and can last up to 10 times longer than traditional light bulbs.  CFL bulbs are just as bright as traditional bulbs and fit into the light fixture no problem.

So if you have a home filled with incandescent light fixtures, you do have alternatives when it comes to saving money without having to change over all the fixtures.  You can buy these bulbs at almost any hardware store or you can shop online.  Be sure to check them out and try and few when replacing a burnt out bulb.
